Pharmacuetical Sales Rep - Why Pharmaceutical Sales Rep Is Needed More Than Ever Today?

I don't want to get dramatic about this but having spent a decade of my life serving the Pharma Industry as a Pharma Sales Rep and later as Area Business Manager for one of the biggest Pharma companies in the world, I personally think that Pharma Sales Rep job is needed more than ever before.

Why?

Here are my top reasons for saying so...

1. Speedy updates.

I still remember vividly the time when Vioxx was withdrawn from the market. Being a sales Manager at that time, I wish I could inform all my customers, especially the ones who based at a certain remote area about the development.

The news might not reach them there. And they themselves are sometimes have too little time to spent watching the news! With the power of mobile phone and speed dialing, plus immediate mobilization of my team members, every customer get the updates on what's going on.

More importantly, the end-users; the patients, also learned about the news from our customers faster. Same goes if there's upcoming news about studies, new drug development, new company policies, etc.

2. More accurate representation.

Let's be honest about this...

Will you just take the words from a printed brochure more than words from a mortal?

What if it touches on life-saving issues, issues like managing hypertension, diabetes, or depression? Don't you think that a mortal words fare better? Of course you do, and that's why as part of their job, a Pharma sales rep will need to visit the customers; GPs, Consultants, Pharmacists, and highlight the issue.

A visit from a Pharma Sales rep will always get their attention. And this is a crucial step to get the message down to the patients or end-users.

A Pharma sales rep does a better job than mere brochure or Newsletter every time.

3. Human touch.

In the end of the day, Doctors, Pharmacists, or related Healthcare Professionals are human being. And a human touch is certainly welcomed.

During those days, when I was a Pharma sales rep myself, I vividly recalled the faces of my GP customers with signs of relief during my visit. Well, things did not always go well for me and so did my customers. But in that moment, two human beings interact and show that they're more than just faces with titles.

In short, the top 3 reasons I shared above are the base of why I see Pharmaceutical Sales Rep job is needed more than ever today. And it's here to stay, regardless of how the Pharma Industry evolves.
