A sales process marries your marketing and selling skills through specific steps so that you know what role you need to work at what point in time during the sale process.

A 7 Step Sales Process

Relationship selling begins by Step 1: Gaining the Attention of Your Prospect or Center of Influence. This step can be sometimes quickly accomplished through your elevator speech. Other times, Gaining Attention may take months.

Step Two is building the Relationship. This step never really stops, but rather is a continuum of actions even after you have made the sale. NOTE: Steps One and Two are really more about the effectiveness of your marketing skills.

Steps Three through Six are all about your selling skills. In Step Three, you are discovering wants and needs. Then in Step Four, you present the case. Step Five is about gaining commitment by overcoming stalls and objections. Finally Step Six is where you deliver the sale.

With the sale complete, Step 7 returns to marketing by doing the follow-up and asking for any referrals. For women who are relationship builders, this may help to explain why women are becoming the best in sales.

Step seven returns you to Step One where you must gain the attention of that new referral. By adopting a proven sales process, helps you to manage both marketing and selling roles as you take your business to that next level.
